Twitter Story to End this KickstarterI'm doing something neat for the end of this KS. It's a prequel story that takes place one tweet at a time, with each pledge unlocking one tweet. It's pretty good so far, if I do say so myself. It's about a battle in the air between a seasoned air Admiral and a mysterious pirate captain sailing a ship armed with the lightning it collects from storm clouds. Latest installment:
Her skin goes white as she lowers the spyglass. "Admiral?" the first mate leans in."Do you know that ship?" "Yes," she says. "It's mine."
The whole thing can be read here (with constant updates): http://storify.com/toenolla/the-voyage-of-an-unknown-airship
Each new tweet is unlocked when someone pledges at least $1, or increases their pledge by at least $1. If you like it, toss some money my way here: http://kck.st/RYsTXw We have less than 24 hours to go, and every little bit helps.
Laser Lace Letters - 70 Hours RemainWe are in the final stretch of my Kickstarter campaign, which ends Tuesday at 9 PM CST. Er...that's surprising, right? I've been so busy working on the project I've barely had time to mention I was doing it. I suspect I may not be very good at this PR thing. :/
Anyway, YES! I am doing a PHENOMENAL project and raising money for it on Kickstarter. What makes it a phenomenal project? I'm writing a story series, but I'm doing it in my own particular way. Instead of a book of bound pages, I'm creating fictional evidence from seven disappearance cases that take place in a steampunk world. The central piece of evidence is something new from my crafting workshop that you'll really like if you're into steampunk or just like shiny pretty things - a cameo pin made from laser cut felt, with lace in the shapes of gears, daggers, hearts, and lightning bolts.
The big deal? Each month from March to September next year, you can get one
Starbag Pattern on SaleThis weekend is the time to start making a bag if you want to cosplay as Ramona Flowers at SDCC, so I decided to put the pattern on sale. $6.50, y'all. That's half off!
On a related note, this is also the weekend to order one from me if you're so inclined.
Big news for Starbags! After weeks of working on the next phase of my Ramona Flowers bag project, the results are finally here. This represents a year and a half of refining and perfecting this one project, and the results are pretty awesome.
Starbags now change colors!
One of the things about the starbag in the comics: it doesn't stay one color. Maybe it's part of its magic properties, but every time Ramona changes her hair color, her bag changes to match it. I've altered my original pattern to allow you to change out the color of the star on the fly. That means you can use this bag for any flavor of Ramona cosplay, or to match a certain look when you aren't in costume. You get three colors when you buy the bag, and I've also made some others, including some pretty
Starbag Updates Coming Soon!Big news on the Ramona Flowers bag front coming up! Soon!
(There will also be big news about the BACKS of the bags. It is the same news.)
What I've been up toThings have been so quiet since Desert Bus, you'd think I'd disappeared wouldn't you?
I'm VERY CLOSE to finishing the digital version of the Starbag pattern. The SVG is going to require some tweaking, but for the most part I have to take on the task of writing the instructions. I want to have it as easy to understand as possible, so I'm taking my time on it. I do hope you'll understand.
I spent a good chunk of time working on a commission for a student group at USC's School of Cinematic Arts. Some of the intended recipients haven't gotten to see it yet, so I'm holding off on posting, but I was really happy with the way it turned out.
I'm doing sketches now for next felt mosaic piece. For those who have asked, the Majora bag won't be going on Etsy. The art was traced from some official Nintendo art. It's their design. However, if you're a Ninten
Are you ready to BUS?!?!?!Only 32 hours to go, folks, before Desert Bus 5 starts rolling! If you haven't already signed up for a donor account, please do so, before the madness starts.
This is, by far, the wittiest charity event of the year. If you don't know, then let me break it down for you.
"Desert Bus," a minigame on Penn and Teller's Smoke and Mirrors for the Sega CD, was designed to be the most realistic game ever. In it, you drive a bus, whose top speed is about 40 mph, from Tucson, AZ to Las Vegas in real time. The highway is completely straight with no landmarks, and the bus drifts ever so slightly to the right, requiring you to actively play the game. If you complete the task, which takes eight hours of real time, you earn one point - and then, you turn around and have to drive back. The game has no ending.
Desert Bus for Hope is a m
I'm a video, on the internet!GENTLEMEN, BEHOLD!
So, as a prelude to Art Conspiracy, KERA's Art and Seek program recorded a video of me talking about the place where I do art. And since my kitchen counter was spoken for that day, I decided to do it at Dallas Makerspace, where I do a lot of my handcrafting and all of my laser cutting. The video ended up being an artist's love letter to a hackerspace. Check it out...it features robots, printable dolls, laser beams, and my doofy face.

Having an Online Presence"All artists need to have an online presence," I said.
"Easy for you to say, Popular Artist™," they said.
"I had to work hard to get 'popular'," I said
"But it's SOOO hhaaaaAAARD," they said
"That's what I just said," I said.
After making my status posts about making an online presence, I figured I'd make a sort of guide. I made a very generic list of things you should do as an artist who wants to get their name out there or "get popular". A lot of people were like, "but I've done all of that". But chances are, you haven't. There's a lot that goes into this and it takes a long ass time. Don't think it's just gonna happen in a month.
So I made a guide based on my own experience and what worked for me (as an illustrator/artist. Some of these tips are more specific than others and some of these will not necessarily work for you. Everyone's different. Keep in mind this is mostly for illustrators/animators/story artists etc. This won't work fo

365 Day drawing Challenge! So I've decided on doing a 365 day drawing challenge! I've compiled a list of 365 things (adjectives, ideas, verbs, etc.) and I will pick one at random every day. Tutorials and techniquesQuite a lot of people keep asking me for tutorials and to be honest I see no point in creating yet another strip on how to paint skin/clothes/light/carrots/whatever. There are so many of them out there that it would be simply a waste of time to sit and basically copy what's already been told.
Instead, I've decided to make a compilation of different tutorials and charts that I personally use to learn how to paint.
The most important thing you need to learn even before starting to read a tutorial is that all walk-throughs are meant for you to understand how things work. My point is that after reading and later practicing a tutorial called 'how to paint a glass duck' you should be able to paint not only a glass duck but also anything else made of glass. You should concentrate on understanding the rules and patterns instead of trying to copy what you see on the image. Otherwise you'll end up knowing how to paint only a few things from only one perspective and one lightning pattern.
