A progressive take on the feather pen. These are three of a larger series I did last week, to go with the new How To Win journals I'm working on.

I got a little perturbed with all the excessively froofy feather pens I saw on craft sites - they didn't really look like anachronistic quills so much as bic pens in drag. So I went into this looking to create something that would look and feel more like a quill, but still seem modern and adventurous.

Feathers are turkey and duck quills. Each is hand-sculpted, silver leafed, and garnished with a silver bead and a bit of wire.

The pens I used for these are also worth checking out. They are Tul stick ballpoints, like these; they write very smoothly and managed to keep up with my rapid, darting longhand beautifully. Plus, they're very pretty.
