Fairy Wedding Gown

Description

Constructed: Underdress (McCalls 4091), outer bodice and skirt (McCalls 4997).

Acquired: Handmade tiara, fairy wings, bride.

This pattern is usually made with a football-field-lengths worth of cable trim, but since that stuff goes for around around $4 a yard, the bride and I had to improvise.

This is the single most difficult cutting job I've ever done on a dress. (The pattern recommends that you double up your fabric into an 11 3/4-yard piece, which is fine if you happen to live in an auditorium, but not so great for those of us with realistic space constraints.) Also, the bottom of the skirt represents the single longest hem I have ever sewn.

On the other hand, those sleeves are priceless, and the whole ensemble fit Pixie's style to a T.

I love the sleeves. I wish I could see the lacing in front. It's really pretty.
